Knowledge Is Power

What is the best way to treat a Class II malocclusion? That's a loaded question and the answer is "It Depends". Dr. Ng will review all the subtle nuances of the Class II malocclusion and provide an evidence-based approach on how to tackle this everyday problem. Since he uses Empower self-ligating (SL) brackets, Dr. Ng will explain in further detail some of the clinical benefits of an active SL bracket and the importance of the third order and torque control required for proper finishing of Class II cases. The emphasis however will be tips and tricks, as well as clinical pearls and discussion of various different products that can be used no matter what bracket system or Class II corrector you like to use. The goal of the presentation is to sharpen the tools you have in your orthodontic toolbox. Or perhaps learn about more efficient tools compared to what you may currently use and gain the confidence to use them with an evidence-based approach to back up your treatment decisions.

Objectives:

  • Review the differences between skeletal and dental Class II malocclusions in all three planes of space
  • Review the roles of growth and different types of tooth movement for the Class II patient
  • Understand the importance of the third order and torque control to properly finish Class II cases
  • Discuss different products and clinical pearls to more efficiently treat Class II patients
